Bucking the trend…

The Widowmakers returned to their training camp following their semi final defeat to the elves of the Harrelsons. After two games this season, the Harrelsons were really growing on the Nurgle boys, they liked these elves, if only they could find a way to stop the buggers scoring they’d like them even more.

However as the team and Coach Thunden reflected on their first season in the pros… they were content. Not blissfully happy… but when has anyone ever seen an acolyte of nurgle blissfully happy? However they’d done alright. They’d reclaimed Thundens, DVC Trophy… Faith No More had caught the coach on more than one occasion running his thumb across the inscriptions in the old cups plaque… They’d won a playoff game… something that the Titans never managed to accomplish, but they knew better than to mention that to the Coach.

During the season… and boy had it been a tough season, they had started to gel as a team. Smashing Pumpkin had found his feet and become a fulcrum of the defence. Stoned Temple Pilot and Sabbath had developed an almost telepathic bond… enabling them to pull off the stunts they wanted to become known for. Terrorvision, Skunk Anansie and Ash had all started to take notice of Faith No More who had become the defacto leader of the team, coordinating the defence…

The only issue had been bloody Dead Zeppelin… try as they might they couldn’t get this Beast to do anything more than the minimum… this was no Beast of Nurgle… this was a Beast of Burden. He’d played his part in some of the wins they’d had, but he’d also cost the team dear. It was no secret Thunden had tried to replace him in the close season but had instead opted to bring in Rank Bruno as a replacement for the poor departed Stoned Roses who was maliciously killed by the Lizards of Lazertrip. Thus the goal for S9 was to educate this beast to a point where he would no longer be the weak, squeaky wheel.

Most importantly to the team though, they had been vilified on and off through the season for being big and bad. Other teams and coaches professing to be afraid of their violence. However, that wasn’t how this bunch of grotesques wanted to be remembered. They had more to them than that…

They could play with the best of them dammit. They proved that in the playoffs. Hell, they were moments away from causing a huge upset with their daring play against the Harrelsons…

Season 10, the Widowmakers would prove they were no kill team to be feared… however with the addition of Rank Bruno… they aimed to become known as the team to trouble your end zone. They could stand with the elves… they could rat with the rats. Their intent clear for the coming season, the team set about their drills, passing schedules and dodging practice, time and again picking themselves up from the turf after falling… Drill Instructor Sergeant Major Banlaen heartlessly driving them forwards. With his oversight they would get there.

Now pass them another ball…
